Dr. Henson receives St. Joseph’s Physician of the Year honor

HOT SPRINGS, Ark.St. Joseph’s Mercy Clinic gynecologist-obstetrician Clint H. Henson, M.D. has been named Physician of the Year at St. Joseph’s Mercy Health Center.     The annual St. Joseph’s Mercy Physician of the Year award is a byproduct of Physician of the Quarter recognition, a Physician Recognition Team initiative that every three months determines the doctor who has received the most Mercy Service Recognition (MSR) certificates. MSR certificates, which generally go out to physicians who consistently go above and beyond the call of duty, can be filled out and turned in by patients, the family members of patients, co-workers, Volunteer Auxiliary members and anyone on the St. Joseph’s Mercy medical staff.     “Our congratulations go out to Dr. Clint Henson,” said Deacon Bill Friedman, St. Joseph’s Mercy Pastoral Services Director and Physician Recognition Team Leader. “His selection was based on the number of positive comments he received on patient survey forms, as well as MSR certificates. Any physician is eligible for the yearly award, but normally the winner has consistently received positive comments throughout all four quarters.     “That was the case for Dr. Henson and he is certainly very deserving of this year’s honor.”     Dr. Henson, board certified in both obstetrics and gynecology, learned of his good fortune while recently seeing patients at his St. Joseph’s Mercy Clinic office on the second floor of the Mercy Women’s Center at 118 Women’s Center Lane.     “I was very surprised to learn of my selection as St. Joseph’s Mercy Physician of the Year,” said Dr. Henson, who resides on a farm outside Hot Springs with his wife of 23 years, Marti, and daughters Hannah (21), Emma (18) and Elle (12). It is humbling and a tremendous honor, but in my estimation it is not about me. I get to do something I love every day – deliver babies for other people – and the people I am surrounded by make it fun and so worthwhile.     “I am surrounded by the best physician partners a guy could ask for, a great nurse in Betty Green and a tremendous St. Joseph’s Mercy Labor and Delivery staff. They are phenomenal. They make me look good every day, which is why what I do is so much fun and I refuse to consider it work.”     Dr. Henson shares office space with fellow St. Joseph’s Mercy Clinic obstetricians-gynecologists Jaime A. Cardenas, M.D., Marcus E. Gunter, M.D., A. Nicquel Gordon, M.D. and Mary Thaxton, M.D. Dr Cardenas claimed St. Joseph’s Mercy Physician of the Year honors in 2008, while Emergency Department physician James E. Tutton, M.D. was named in 2009.     Dr. Henson, a North Little Rock native who has been practicing out of his Mercy Women’s Center office for 18 years, earned his medical degree at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. He did his residency at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, North Carolina.
