Diagnosis & Treatment

The cardiologists, along
with members of the technical and nursing staffs, utilize the cardiac catheterization
suites to perform a variety of procedures designed to both diagnose heart disease
and intervene as needed. St. Joseph's performs cardiology procedures
using the latest technology, including the use of drug eluting coronary stents,
vascular closure devices and rotablators. In addition, non-invasive cardiology
testing consisting of echocardiography (ultrasound of the heart) and cardiac
stress testing with nuclear imaging is performed. The latest screening technology,
HeartScan CT, is available through the Comprehensive
Cardiac Risk Assessment Program. The HeartScan CT detects the amount of calcium in the
coronary arteries. It's non-invasive, painless and takes less than 10 minutes
to complete. Our most recent treatment option, Enhanced External Counterpulsation
(EECP), is now available through the Conjestive Heart Failure Program, which is for
patients with chronic disabling angina who are unable to have surgery or angioplasty.
