Mercy Women's Center
The 20,000-square-foot Women's Center of Excellence, the first in South Central Arkansas to offer the revolutionary imaging technology of the Selenia digital mammography system, includes office space for six obstetrician/gynecologists, the Mercy Pregnancy
Care Clinic, and resource library, educational classrooms, and a comprehensive
breast center.
"We are very excited about the comprehensive
Breast Center, " said Marsha Oliver, the Women's Services Operations Manager for St.
Joseph's. "The Center allows us to offer screening mammography results
within 24 hours. The patient's primary care physician notified of the results
and additional tests can be ordered as needed. Therefore, patients with suspicious
mammogram results do not have to wait for days or weeks to know if they have cancer."
In additon to digital mammography, the Breast Center offers stereotactic
breast biopsy, bone density and ultrasound testing. Surgeons are available at the Center
for consultation. The goal is to make the whole process easier, encouraging
more women to take the preventive step to have a mammogram performed. This is
important because according to the Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care, Arkansas
ranks 49th in mammography rates. In
addition, educational classes are offered encompassing the lifespan of women's
health issues from childbirth to menopause. To view the OB/GYN's
